To stop the wife of Amritpal Singh at Airport is un-genuine

Amritsar : Jatehdar Akal Takht (highest Sikh temporal seat)  Gyani Harpreet Singh here today described the incident as not good to stop the wife of Amritpal Singh at Shri Guru Ramdas International Airport  on Thursday when she was going to board the flight for London.

In a statement issued here today, Jatehdar said that to stop the wife of Amritpal Singh at Amritsar Airport was not genuine from any angle as she was moving back to her parental home. Governments shouldn’t create such an atmosphere of panic in the region and she should not have been stopped. “Moreover she is a British national, she didn’t commit any crime and if the Government wants to ask or enquire anything from her, should visit her residence in a respectful way”, he quipped.

Jatehdar said that Police had earlier visited her house numerous times and questioned her and her family. Moreover, there was no FIR registered on her name.  If the police wanted to enquire about something more from her could visit her house.

However, on Thursday, fugitive radical preacher Amritpal Singh’s wife Kirandeep Kaur was stopped at the Sri Guru Ram Dass International Airport here by immigration officials while she was trying to board a flight to London.

She was questioned by the immigration authorities.

Singh married Kaur, a UK-based NRI, in February this year.

Punjab Police officials refused to answer questions posed by media persons at the airport.

More than a month after a police crackdown against Singh and his aides, the radical preacher continues to remain elusive even as a manhunt to nab him is underway.

Police on March 18 had launched the crackdown against Singh and members of his outfit ‘Waris Punjab De.’

He and his associates were booked under several criminal cases related to spreading disharmony among classes, attempt to murder, attack on police personnel and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duty by public servants.

On February 10, Singh got married to Kaur in a simple ceremony at Jallupur Khera, his native village in Amritsar.

The ‘Anand Karaj’ (marriage as per Sikh rituals) was held with a limited gathering of family members from both sides at a gurudwara in Baba Bakala in Amritsar.

Singh had said that a marriage ceremony should be simple and urged people not to indulge in “show-off” by splurging money on grand weddings.

The preacher had said his marriage was an example of reverse migration and announced that he and his wife would live in Punjab.
