Traders migrating to manufacturing

-SATISH HANDA
Large number of traders in Haryana state has started shifting their
business to manufacturing in order to fill up gap due to corona virus
adversely affected trade and industry in China as a result exports
from China supplying raw material as well as other products in India
came to halt in past sometime. Most of these traders were earlier
having small scale manufacturing units, especially in the field of
scientific and medical instruments at Science City Ambala having more
than 1200 units in the town. Past scenario reveals that as a result of
economic recession since past over a decade large number of small and
medium manufacturers in Haryana state had shifted their manufacturing
business to trading and closed down their production units due to
availability of these products at cheaper rates from manufacturers in
China.
Information reveals that thousands of small entrepreneurs in the state
having small scale industrial units left production and switched over
to trading by imports from China directly or through agents in order
to get rid of day to day problems face by them in manufacturing.
According to information, there are more than 200 manufacturers of
microscopes used in technical educational and in medical sector at
Science City Ambala but they prefer to import microscopes from China
due to lesser rates than production cost and selling in their own
brand in domestic as well as in export markets, and now switching over
to manufacturing again due to epidemic outbreak adversely affected
industry in China.
According to entrepreneurs shifted their business from manufacturing
to trading, imports from China would be uneconomic due to adverse
economic condition faced by industry in China due to acute shortage of
labour and drastic increase in shipment cost since containers are
available at more than double cost at present. They said, moreover the
manufacturers are not making commitments for supplies against orders
in the absence of when situation would be normal since economic crisis
faced by industry in China has witnessed 35-40 percent decline due to
corona virus disease in the country.
Information also reveals, large number of manufacturers in Israel and
Japan are trying hard to fill up the gap due to corona virus disaster
in China trying to supply raw material not only in India but all over
in world especially in electronics, automobile, garment,
pharmaceutical, engineering and other sectors likely to increase
production costs. Information also reveals that the representatives of
nearly eight reputed manufactures from Israel and four manufacturers
from Japan are trying hard to establish their business in India for
supply of raw materials.
