Chandigarh: A swarm of bees attacked the employees of Haryana Secretariat in Chandigarh on Tuesday afternoon. The employees started running here and there in a hurry to save themselves, but two employees were severely injured in the bee attack. When a CISF jawan attempted to save an employee, the bees attacked him too. Both the injured employees were taken to the hospital in an ambulance. During the attack of the bees, the secretariat employees immediately entered the office to protect themselves, while some employees immediately covered themselves with a cloth and sat on the ground when they failed to find a safe place near the barricade at the secretariat gate..
The employees seriously injured due to the bee attack were admitted to the nearby dispensary of MLA Hostel located in Sector-3, where medical treatment was offered to save them from danger. Due to immediate medical treatment offered to the employees suffering bee stings, the infection could not spread in the victims’ body when the doctor removed the stings of the bees and gave anti-inflammatory medicine to the employees. According to information, nearly a thousand employees and officers working in Haryana and its adjoining Punjab Civil Secretariat remain on duty from 10 am to late evening. Employees usually come for a walk in the secretariat campus during lunch time in the afternoon.
The employees said, a complaint has been made by the Employee Officer Association to remove the bees hanging at places in the area but no relief has been provided for a long time. The doctor of dispensary in MLA Hostel said that the sting of bees spreads a poison called ‘Melittin’ in the human body causing severe pain, swelling and burning in the body, and if the victim is suffering from allergy or any other type of disease, then life of the patient suffered bee attack can also be in danger. In cases of bee attacks on children, they have resulted in death also. To avoid bee attacks, the victim should go in the dark because bees do not go in the dark. Try to go inside the water, spread smoke around, cover your face immediately and cover your body with a blanket when time is short, one can protect himself or herself with these measures.
