Union Defense Minister addresses 98th convocation of DU,Digital degree given to 1.73 lakh students through tab

NEW DELHI : 98th Convocation of University of Delhi (DU) was duly organized on Saturday, 26th February at the Multipurpose Hall of DU Sports Complex. Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was present as the chief guest in this function while University of Delhi Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh presided over the function. Digital degrees were awarded for the first time on this occasion. The Union Defense Minister gave digital degrees to 1 lakh 73 thousand 443 students by touching the tab with his hands. On this occasion, the Chief Guest in his convocation address said that values ​​are more important than knowledge in life. Prior to him, DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, in the welcome address, thanked all the visitors including the chief guest and congratulated the students who were awarded their degrees.

In his address, the Chief Guest, Rajnath Singh, while explaining the importance of rituals, said that Ravana was more knowledgeable, richer and stronger than Shri Ram, but the worship is not of Ravana, but of Purushottam Ram, of his value systems. He exhorted the students to work diligently. It doesn’t matter how intelligent you are, but what matters is how big your mind is and what your sanskars are. He said that the direction of life is not decided by education but ad. Do not be afraid of failure in life because no success is final and no failure is fatal. Perseverance and patience is the basic mantra of life. If you have courage, then you can achieve success on any front in life. He said that the future of any country depends on the youth like you. He called upon the students to go ahead and discover new technology, which, he said, is our hope.

Referring to India’s worldwide contribution, Rajnath Singh said that from the Nobel Prize awarded to the first Indian scientist CV Raman in the last century to the world’s biggest discovery like God Particle in this century, India’s contribution has been significant. The Chief Guest, while calling on the students, said that now many changes shall come in your life. The next life will start from what you have learned during your education. You have to work in applied mode. You will face many challenges in the coming time. At that time ,it is  only the knowledge gained from this university that will be your support. He said that knowledge and principles in various fields of humanity come from universities only. Referring to the contribution of various foreign universities, the Defense Minister said that today Indian people are running the world’s big companies like Google, Microsoft and Twitter. The chief guest also discussed in detail the contribution of India’s spirituality.

He said that in the past, India has been a Vishwa Guru, the world also accepts it. There was a time when India was number one in the world in the field of science, but due to the slavery of centuries many people are not familiar with it. Referring to many achievements from the theory of zero to Pythagoras theorem, the earth being round, the theory of infinity and plastic surgery, among others, he said that India has been a world leader in the past. He said that it is our dream that India should become the world guru again. We want to make India powerful, wealthy and strong and want to make every Indian sanskarvan.

In his address, Rajnath Singh said that he considers it his privilege to be present in this convocation. He said that he is very happy that he has been a teacher and researcher and has also been the education minister, which is why, he accepts the invitations of educational programs. He said that wherever he goes, people associated with DU keep meeting him and those people are proud to be associated with DU. While congratulating all the members of DU on the occasion of the convocation ceremony, the Defense Minister also congratulated and extended best wishes to all the students and their families who were awarded their degrees today. In the beginning of the function DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh welcomed everyone and presented the report of the university. He conveyed his best wishes to the students who were awarded their degrees in this convocation. Expressing his gratitude to the chief guest, he said that today, despite the fact, that there is a situation of tension at the international level and elections  being held in many states of India, it is a matter of privilege for the Defense Minister to have taken time out for this function. The Vice Chancellor also threw light on the life of the Chief Guest. Along with this, he told that from May 1, 2022, DU shall be celebrating the hundredth year of its establishment. Along with this, he also described in detail the ranking of DU at the world level. He said that under the new education policy NEP-2020, DU is now going to start some new programs in engineering including B. Tech. Computer Science, B. Tech. Electrical, B. Tech. Electronics, Integrated 5-year BA LLB and BBA LLB.

On this occasion, Dean of Colleges Prof. Balram Pani, Director South Delhi Campus Prof. Shri Prakash Singh, Dean of Examination Prof. DS Rawat, DU Registrar Dr Vikas Gupta, Ambedkar University, Delhi Registrar Dr Nitin Malik, DU PRO Anoop Lather, including all Deans, Principals of Colleges, degree and gold medal recipient students, teachers and non-teaching officers and employees etc. were present. Due to the Corona protocol, most of the students became part of the function through online mode.
