Vigilance arrests Police officials, a private person for taking bribe Rs 10,000

Amritsar, October 17  : Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign on Monday arrested a senior police constable and a private person for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the VB said the above mentioned accused constable Gurdeep Singh (No 1665/Amritsar), posted as Naib Reader in the office of ACP East Amritsar and private person Mayur, resident of Karimpura, Amritsar have been arrested on the complaint of Sucha Singh, resident of Partap Nagar, Amritsar.

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the local police had registered a case against his son and the above-mentioned police official and private person were demanding Rs 15,000 for facilitating a compromise in this regard with the complainant in the police case but deal was struck at Rs 10,000.

After verification of the facts in the complaint and the material evidence, a VB team have arrested the above-mentioned police officials and private person for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

The spokesperson in a statement informed that in this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both the accused at VB police station, Amritsar and further investigation was under progress.
