‘Village Defense’ Committees will be formed in  Punjab: Governor

With the coordination of police and security agencies, the recovery of drugs increased by 50 % says Governor

Amritsar : Governor Punjab  Banwari Lal Purohit after holding a marathon meeting with the Punjab chiefs of all the agencies involved in the security of the country, including the Punjab Police, at Guru Nanak Dev University, said that due to better coordination between the police and security agencies in the state, the recovery of drugs increased by 50 percent.

Addressing the press conference, he said that drones were big challenges for the state as smuggling activities from Pakistan were being done through drones. To counter such challenges, preparations are being made to install an anti-drone system on the international Indo-Pak border.

He said that after the success of the security committees formed within 15 km radius of the border, instructions have been given to the Chief Secretary Punjab to form such defense security committees of civilians in the entire state, which he has accepted.

He said that 21-member  defense   committees will be formed in all the villages of Punjab, which will work for the eradication of drugs and illegal mining from its root.

He said Pakistan, the neighboring country, was behind the drug trafficking, which cannot fight directly with us, but was stabbing us in the back by smuggling drugs to ruin our young generation. But here we all have to stop such a nefarious act of Pakistan to prevent drug smuggling effectively.

On this occasion, in reply to a question, DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan has announced to end drug addiction by 15th August 2024 and we are working continuously to achieve this goal.

He said that on the issue of drugs, we are working with a policy of zero tolerance and any police officer or employee found guilty of having contact with drug dealers to be dealt with in the same manner as is done with criminals.

On this occasion, Chief Secretary Punjab Anurag Verma, Special Chief Secretary Sarvjit Singh, Additional Chief Secretary K Shiva Prashad, Police Commissioner Naunihal Singh, DIG Narendra Bhargava were present.
